Oatmeal for College Kids

My pantry is practically empty. I have rice, noodles, soup and oatmeal. So for the past week, my meals have been pretty boring. But I have discovered that I love oatmeal. Like seriously...LOVE it. I can't stop eating it. It's so easy and so fast to make, and it's a lot better than the frozen dinners and pizzas I usually buy at the grocery. Plus, it's super cheap, so as a college student, I can buy a few boxes at a time and not worry about my debit card being declined when I'm checking out. Oatmeal is kind of 'blah' though. But no worries...I have found lots of fun recipes to make an exciting bowl of oatmeal!
I tried the Best-Ever Maple-Cinnamon Oatmeal (after borrowing syrup, butter and cinnamon from my roommate), and it was amazing.
It's probably super lame that I'm getting this excited over oatmeal recipes, but I've been trying to stay away from fast food and junk food. Since there are a ton of recipes on this website, I'm hoping I can keep going with these healthier eating habits.

  1. I used to mix peanut butter in with my oatmeal in the mornings... sounds weird, but tastes awesome! Also cheap ha.

  2. I don't eat oatmeal. I'm more of a cereal or donuts guy. And I probably always will be. Pop Tarts are good in the morning too

  3. Oh my god. Hannah, this post makes me another Hannah so happy! I ate oatmeal for lunch today! I am also obsessed with oatmeal, and coincidentally I have already visited the oatmeal recipe site you posted.

I love oatmeal with fruit and in the fall, I stir in pumpkin puree to get extra nutrients without too much sugar. My roommate gives me weird looks every time I eat oatmeal--like it's only for old people or something--but I don't care. A big canister of oatmeal is only $2, and it lasts forever! You can't beat that.

  8. I'm on the Carnation Instant Breakfast diet. It consists of Carnation Instant Breakfast, 2 percent milk and Carnation Instant Breakfast. There's just no room for oatmeal at my dinner table.

  11. It sure beats crates of Ramen, that's for sure. Freshman year ruined Ramen for me, I can barely look at it anymore in the grocery store without remembering its awful smell.

  12. I eat oatmeal a lot when I get it. For some reason, I never think to really buy any at the store because I'm probably broke.

Either way, I've always loved oatmeal and have a friend who loves it, too, so I'm sure he'd be interested in this hahaha.
